Q1. What's the difference between Korean age, year age, and counting age?
Korean age (만 나이) only increases after your birthday has passed, and has been the official standard for most Korean laws since June 2023. Year age (연 나이) is simply the current year minus your birth year regardless of whether your birthday has passed, and is still used in laws like the Military Service Act. Counting age (세는 나이) is the traditional system where you're already 1 at birth.
Q2. Isn't Korean age the only one that matters now?
Korean age is the official standard for everyday life and most laws, but some laws — like the Military Service Act and Juvenile Protection Act — still use year age, so it depends on the context.
